Putting Some Function into Your Practice

March 9, 2022Medical Billing

Yes, those are high-level mathematical functions in the image. No, I cannot explain them to you or show you how the brilliant minds that figure these outdo it. They’re here to help you see that if you can make it through a math class, then you can easily make it through straightening out a dysfunctional medical practice. When confronted with an environment where the staff seems at odds it’s simple to wave a white flag. Even a paper towel can become a white flag if you wave it long enough. How do we cut through the noisy discord? We’ve rounded up a few ideas that could help you incorporate function and ease into the dysfunction:

Let’s talk about it. Seriously, having an open line of communication, for all levels of employees, is dire for the survival of your practice. A key part of communicating with your team could be giving and receiving feedback. The feedback that is clear and promotes the work of your team within the mission and goals of the practice is pivotal. In practices that are healthy and thriving performance appraisals are expected and implemented. Individuals who are seen as under-performers are helped by the team or dismissed.

Clear expectations. A big part of talking through things within your team is setting clear expectations for every level and person. You may want to establish policies that set the expectations for each employee or position. A good way to begin is to set a group with the task of establishing the practice’s criteria for professionalism. This would ensure that the people who are working within your ranks are also setting the terms of expectation.

Develop a grievance procedure. Barring enlisting a mediator, which sounds like a huge undertaking, to get into the issues your team has, it’s a great practice. Your team needs to set a procedure where all feel that they are safe to speak about issues and that a perceived conflict is taken seriously and analyzed from all angles.

The best investment is your team. Developing your team’s skills and helping them boost their specialties is the greatest thing you can do to ensure that everyone is happy and achieving all of their desired goals and are lifted to achieve more for the practice. You invest in them; they will reward that by going above and beyond for the practice.

If you feel your team needs additional support, our team at Gables Medica Billing is more than happy to help you proactively meet the needs of your clients and receive reimbursement for your work.
